Private Label Serum Packaging Artwork Checklist: Bottle Label & Box

A professional serum package must do more than look attractive. The bottle label and outer box need to fit the selected components, remain readable, match the approved formula and include the information required for the destination market.

This serum packaging artwork checklist helps beauty brands, salons, clinics, academies and distributors prepare files before sample printing or mass production. It also explains which details should be confirmed with the manufacturer instead of guessed by the designer.

Start With the Final Bottle and Closure

Artwork should not be finalized before the packaging structure is confirmed. A 30 ml dropper bottle, a 50 ml spray bottle and an airless pump use different printable areas and information layouts.

  • bottle material, color and capacity;
  • dropper, pump, spray head or cap;
  • label width and height;
  • carton dieline and finished dimensions;
  • print method and number of colors;
  • matte, gloss, foil or other approved finish;
  • safe area, bleed and fold lines.

Do not scale a label from a product photograph. Request the current dieline or confirmed print dimensions for the exact bottle and carton.

Bottle Label Artwork Checklist

Front panel

  • brand name or logo;
  • product name;
  • clear cosmetic product description;
  • net content in the required unit format;
  • legible contrast between text and background.

Avoid filling the front label with unsupported benefit claims. The product name and short description should accurately reflect the selected formula.

Back or side panel

  • ingredient list using the appropriate INCI names;
  • directions for cosmetic use;
  • cautions and storage information;
  • batch or lot field where required;
  • manufacturer, importer or responsible-party information as applicable;
  • country-of-origin wording where required;
  • barcode or QR code if part of the sales plan.

The final responsible-party wording depends on the destination market and supply arrangement. Buyers should not copy the address or regulatory role from another brand’s package.

Outer Box Artwork Checklist

Front panel

Use the brand, product name, cosmetic description and net content. Keep the visual hierarchy consistent with the bottle.

Back panel

Use the main ingredient list, directions, cautions, storage conditions and responsible-party information.

Side panels

Use side panels for supporting product information, barcode, recycling symbols, contact details or other market-required statements.

Top and bottom panels

Reserve space for batch, lot, manufacturing or expiry information when required by the product and destination market. Confirm whether this information will be printed in the artwork or added during production.

Claims That Need Extra Review

Packaging claims must match the formula and available evidence. Avoid presenting a cosmetic serum as preventing, treating or curing a medical condition unless the product has the required authorization for that market.

  • hair growth or hair-loss treatment;
  • scar removal or treatment;
  • acne treatment;
  • healing or tissue regeneration;
  • collagen production guarantees;
  • instant or permanent results;
  • medical-grade or clinically proven statements without supporting evidence.

A safer cosmetic approach describes the product category, sensory features or appearance-related benefits that are supported by the formula and documentation.

Match the Artwork to the Actual Formula

The ingredient list, directions and cautions must match the serum being ordered. A document or label created for one concentration should not automatically be used for a different concentration or modified formula.

Current Justech products have MSDS available. Additional documents—such as specifications, COA, microbiological testing, stability information or market-specific files—depend on the actual formula, production batch and destination requirements.

Technical File Checklist for the Designer

  • use the manufacturer-supplied dieline;
  • keep cut, fold, bleed and safe-area guides on separate non-printing layers;
  • convert or package fonts according to the printer’s requirements;
  • use the requested color mode and color references;
  • place images at sufficient print resolution;
  • avoid small text below the printer’s recommended size;
  • keep barcodes and QR codes within a clear, scannable area;
  • submit the requested editable file format and a reference PDF;
  • name the final version clearly;
  • do not remove mandatory information to improve appearance.

Sample Approval vs Production Approval

A sample-stage visual confirms the general direction, but it is not automatically the final production approval. Before production, confirm:

  • final formula and concentration;
  • final bottle, closure and fill volume;
  • final label and carton dimensions;
  • all text and ingredient information;
  • colors and approved finishes;
  • barcode or QR-code function;
  • destination-market information;
  • the exact files marked for production.

Common Artwork Problems That Delay Production

  • artwork created before the final bottle is selected;
  • missing bleed or safe area;
  • text placed across a fold or curved surface;
  • ingredient list that does not match the formula;
  • medical claims added without review;
  • low-resolution logo or product image;
  • missing responsible-party information;
  • unconfirmed barcode or QR code;
  • several files all marked “final”;
  • bottle and box versions containing different information.

Information to Send for an Artwork Review

  • destination country;
  • serum formula or product name;
  • bottle capacity and closure;
  • order quantity;
  • logo and brand colors;
  • editable label and box files if available;
  • required barcode, QR code and contact details;
  • required documents and target launch date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Justech design the bottle label and box?

Design support can be discussed as part of the customization project. The buyer must supply correct brand information and approve all final text, claims and files.

Can I use the same artwork for different bottle sizes?

Not without checking the printable area and required information. Each bottle size or closure may require a different label layout.

Can the bottle, cap and box colors be changed?

Standard color options can be discussed. Special colors, coatings or materials may change MOQ, price and lead time.

Who checks the legal wording?

The manufacturer can provide product and packaging information, but destination-market compliance should be reviewed by the responsible party, importer or qualified regulatory adviser.

When should artwork be approved?

Approve sample-stage visuals first, then approve the final production files only after the formula, packaging specification and required market information are confirmed.

Prepare the Artwork Before You Prepare the Inventory

A clear artwork process reduces reprints, delays and compliance risk. Confirm the packaging structure first, build the label and box on the correct dielines, match every statement to the formula, and keep one approved production version.
